Following an April 2018 trial court judgement for Omar Abdullah to pay 75,000 in interim maintenance, the High Court increased the sum.

The Barandbench reported on Thursday, August 31st, from New Delhi, that the Delhi High Court has ordered former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to pay 1.5 lakh monthly as support to his estranged wife Payal Abdullah. In addition, Justice Subramonium Prasad ordered Abdullah to fork over 60,000 per month to fund his son’s schooling.Payal Abdullah appealed to the High Court in July 2018 against a lower court’s April 26, 2018 ruling, and the High Court upheld the lower court’s decision.The trial court had awarded interim support of 75,000 per month to Payal Abdullah and 25,000 to their son till he turned 18 in proceedings under Section 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).Payal Abdullah filed a petition at the High Court to increase the same.

She claimed that the maintenance award was inadequate since their boys were too young to work and needed financial support from both their parents.In 2016, a trial court ruled against Omar Abdullah’s petition for divorce, finding that he had not shown sufficient evidence of “irretrievable breakdown of the marriage” and “cruelty or desertion.”In response to this ruling, Abdullah has filed an appeal with the Delhi High Court.
