Srinagar, Dec. 5: Omar Abdullah, vice president of the National Conference, said on Tuesday that the Congress party’s inadequacies should be held more accountable for the BJP’s victories in three states than for the India alliance’s collapse.

Omar Abdullah emphasized to the media at Hazratbal that the India alliance was not defeated in these elections. Rather, he indicated that certain claims had come to light and needed to be addressed.

Omar drew attention to the fact that, rather than fielding a unified front, several political groups fought the state elections separately.

He emphasized that rather than being a defeat for the partnership as a whole, the Congress should see it as a personal failure.

Omar would not address whether Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had gotten a similar notification, but he did state that the National Conference had actually received such an invitation.

“The focus remains on addressing internal party matters and strengthening the alliance moving forward,” he said.
