New Delhi, September 29: The Election Commission has informed the Law Commission that it would take some time to execute simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

One Nation, One Election implementation before the 2024 Lok Sabha election was not specifically addressed by the poll panel during consultation with the law panel, according to Law Commission Chairman Justice (retd) Ritu Raj Awasthi, speaking to IANS.

The Election Commission “did not give any specific timeline for implementation of simultaneous polls,” Justice Awasthi said.

Regarding a report on simultaneous elections, the Law Commission is in dialogue with the polling organisation, other government agencies, and other interested parties. The ‘One Nation, One Election’ Committee, which is led by the former president Ram Nath Kovind, had its first meeting on September 23 and agreed to solicit opinions on the notion of concurrent elections from all parties and stakeholders.
