July 27: In Srinagar. According to a press release issued by the Anti-Corruption Bureau on Thursday, a revenue officer was nabbed in the Kawarhama region of the Baramulla district after he allegedly demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 5,000 for the issuing and processing of revenue extract.
Magam resident Showkat Ali, Patwari Halqa Waripora, is allegedly demanding a bribe of 9000 from him for the issuance and processing of revenue extract for which he has already applied online etc., according to a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

In his lawsuit, the man claims that he and his brother bought a plot of property in Pinjoora, measuring 10 marlas and located on survey no. 786.

complaint is in possession of the property, and the land’s owner has signed an Agreement with the complaint. He went to the Patwari and asked for a revenue extract, he said. The Patwari asked for Rs 10,000 to provide the necessary paperwork. The complainant explained to the Patwari that he is a poor guy who cannot afford to pay this amount, but the Patwari insisted that he pay 9000 or the job would not be completed. He further said that the Patwari instructed the complainant to produce Rs.5,000 on July 26, 2023, as the first installment.

In light of these events, the complainant reportedly went to the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), explained that he refuses to pay a bribe, and asked that the ACB take legal action against the Patwari in question.

“As the contents of the complaint prima facie disclosed the commission of an offence punishable U/S 7 of the PC Act 1988 (as amended in 2018) by the accused, a case FIR No. 07/2023 was registered at Police Station Anti Corruption Bureau, Baramulla U/S 7 of the P.C Act 1988 against him.”

It goes on to say that a “trap team” was formed throughout the investigation, and that they were successful in setting a trap to catch the accused in the act of asking and taking a bribe of 5,000.

After the proper procedures were followed, he was detained immediately. It says, “The case is still being investigated”—(KNO).
