August 6th, Srinagar: Sajad Gani Lone, leader of the Peoples Conference (PC), said today that the PC would keep fighting in the courts and legislature to reclaim Jammu and Kashmiris’ lost rights and honour. A news release states that he spoke at a party conference in Yarikh, Khansahib. Manzoor Wani, vice president of the party’s central zone, called for the meeting. Abdul Gani Vakil, Mushtaq Ahmed Lone, Tasaduq Yaseen (the political secretary to the PC President), and Ghulam Mohiuddin were all there.

In his speech, Lone urged the crowd to rally behind the People’s Conference, which he said was the only political organisation capable of upholding democracy and creating a society in which citizens’ opinions mattered.

Lone reaffirmed the PC’s steadfast commitment to protecting the interests of Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the party’s 45-year history of struggle and sacrifice. He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to its original goal of establishing a future for Jammu and Kashmir in which democracy prospers, democratic institutions are fortified, and the people live in peace and prosperity.

We shall work to get the people of J&K their lost rights and respect back via the political and judicial systems. Furthermore, he emphasised, “we will work tirelessly towards strengthening political institutions and ensuring accountability in governance.”

Lone also strongly supported the idea of a governance paradigm that gives citizens of J&K more say in the direction the state is headed, rather than considering them as bystanders.

In order to make progress towards a better future for everyone, it is imperative that the people of Jammu and Kashmir recover their due role in the democratic process. Seeing democracy denied and bureaucracy elevated to the forefront of decision-making is very unsettling. He said, “In democracies, it is the political class that carries the burden of responding to the people’s mandate, of bearing the weight of public accountability, and of making vital choices that define the fate of the people.
