The Pharmacy (Amendment) Bill, 2023, which was introduced in the Jammu and Kashmir legislature on August 8th, will clarify the legal standing of those who are registered or qualified under the Jammu and Kashmir Pharmacy Act.

While responding to the discussion on the Bill in Lok Sabha on Monday, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya made this statement.

The measure was approved by voice vote in the Lok Sabha. After passing the Rajya Sabha, the Bill will enable those already qualified or registered as chemists under the Jammu and Kashmir Pharmacy Act to also be registered under the Pharmacy Act. Pharmacists in the nation must register under this Act.

Mandaviya said that he believes the change would assist J&K’s young people find better employment prospects. ‘After Article 370, the scenario in J&K changed, and these modifications will open the avenues of government employment for the youth of J&K, where tele-consultation services are also now accessible,’ he added.

Any individual whose name appears in the register of pharmacists maintained under the Jammu and Kashmir pharmacy act, 2011, or who possesses qualification (medical assistant and pharmacists), as described in the statement of objects and reasons for the Amendment Bill, shall be deemed to have appeared in the register of pharmacists prepared and maintained under Chapter IV of the Pharmacy Act.
