Police: Anantnag-based terrorist associate was found guilty under UAPA

After the trial in FIR No. 33/2019, filed under sections 18, 20, 38, and 39 of the UA(P) Act by Police Station Srigufwara, had concluded, the defendant was found guilty.

Srinagar, Sep 1: Police said on Friday that a court has found a terrorist member from Bijbehara, Anantnag guilty and fined him Rs. 1 lakh.

According to a police statement, the conviction followed the conclusion of the trial in case FIR No. 33/2019, which was brought under sections 18, 20, 38, and 39 of the UA(P) Act by Police Station Srigufwara.

The terrorist associate, named as Shahid Fayaz Tarray, a Shalagam Bijbehara resident and the son of Fayaz Ahmad Tarray, was found guilty in accordance with Section 39 of the UA(P) Act.

On July 23, 2019, Police Station Srigufwara received information indicating that unidentified hard-core terrorist associates of the banned terrorist group JeM were encouraging young people to join their ranks, facilitating terrorist acts, and organising terror modules to provide any assistance necessary to strengthen the terror web within their jurisdiction. Following the receipt of this information, a case FIR No. 33/2019 was filed under sections 18, 20, 38, and 39 of the UA(P) Act, and an investigation was launched, according to the statement.

Some potential hard core terrorist associates were identified throughout the inquiry and interrogated. Shahid Fayaz Tarray, the son of Fayaz Ahmad Tarray, a resident of Shalagam Bijbehara, was captured at a checkpoint that was set up near Darigund Srigufwara later that day. He was brought into custody right away, and items were recovered from him.
