Three terrorists with ties to the banned group LeT were arrested in a joint operation between the J&K Police and the Army in Baramulla. A police spokesperson said that evidence, including weapons and ammo, had been taken from their control.

An unidentified guy was seen by the combined squad of Baramulla Police and Army (16 SIKHLI) as they were conducting a patrol and area dominance exercise in Churunda Uri. The culprit, however, was captured in a subtle manner. Showkat Ali Awan, the son of Churunda Uri resident Abdul Karim Awan, has been positively identified as the perpetrator.

The spokesperson also said that two grenades were found in his possession during the search.

Subsequently, he was transferred to the police station and subjected to extensive interrogation. Ahmad Din son of Shukur Din and Mohammad Sadeeq Khatana son of Umer Din, both from Churunda Uri, were identified as his accomplices and apprehended when he was questioned. They turned up two grenades, a Chinese pistol, a pistol magazine, four live bullets, and other evidence.

According to the spokesperson, the detained terrorists were helping their Pakistan-based terror handlers smuggle weapons over the border for use by the LeT in their terrorist actions.

As a result, “a case has been registered under relevant sections of law at Police Station Uri and investigation has begun.”
