The anniversary of the storming of the Bastille prison, a historic royal fortification, in 1789 during the French Revolution, is commemorated with a parade known as Bastille Day.

About 6,300 troops in different marching contingents are expected to participate in this year’s Bastille Day Parade. The Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force are all represented here. The Punjab Regiment is the Indian Army’s official representative. In the First World War alone, the Regiment’s soldiers earned 18 Battle and Theatre Honours for their efforts.

In September 1915, the Punjab Regiment was a part of an attack in Neuve Chapelle, France. In World War II, the regiment was awarded 16 Battle Honours and 14 Theatre Honours.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defence issued a press statement saying, “Captain Aman Jagtap is in charge of the Indian Army contingent, which consists of 77 marching personnel and 38 members of the Band.” Commander Vrat Baghel is in charge of the Indian Navy presence, while Squadron Leader Sindhu Reddy is in charge of the Indian Air Force contingent. During the parade, a flypast will be performed by Indian Air Force Rafale fighter planes.

It went on to say, “The Punjab Regiment, one of the oldest Regiments in the Indian Army, is leading the Army contingent.” The Regiment’s soldiers served in both world wars and post-independence conflicts.

The official release said that PM Modi’s visit will usher in the next stage of the India-France Strategic Partnership by establishing new and ambitious objectives for our strategic, cultural, scientific, intellectual, and economic collaboration across a variety of sectors.
