August 6th, New Delhi: On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi seemed to take aim at the Opposition grand coalition by harshly criticising “corruption, dynasty rule, and appeasement” and declaring that the whole nation is now demanding that these “evil forces quit India.”

After laying the cornerstone for the renovation of 508 railway stations across 27 states and UTs, PM Modi addressed the nation through video conference.

During the month of August, he recognised the anniversary of the ‘Quit India campaign’ by declaring, “This month is the month of revolution, it is the month of thankfulness. The month of August is known as “Duty Month” because of the numerous significant events that occurred then to change the course of Indian history and continue to serve as an inspiration to us now. In honour of the Swadeshi movement, all of India will be celebrating “national handloom day” tomorrow, August 7. On this day, every Indian will reaffirm his or her commitment to speaking out for local artisans and producers. The next day, August 9, will follow the 7th. On that day, the groundbreaking ‘Quit India’ movement began. Inspired by the Mantra that Mahatma Gandhi had given, the Quit India Movement injected fresh life into India’s fight for independence, and now the whole nation is chanting, “For every evil, which is quit India.”

When asked to elaborate, he said, “There is only one reverberation in all directions, and that is corruption quit India, dynasty quit India, and appeasement quit India.”

Without naming names, the Prime Minister made a scathing attack on the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, claiming that there is a group among the Opposition Parties that opposes everything and that not a single prominent politician from that group has visited the Statue of Unity in Gujarat.

“Unfortunately, certain members of the Opposition in our nation are still stuck in the past. They won’t take initiative or delegate responsibility for anything. The country’s legislative centre is now state-of-the-art. Parliament represents the ideals of democracy in the nation. It includes both members of the ruling party and the opposition. However, this Opposition group was strongly against the brand-new Parliament building. Even when we redid Kartavya Path, they were against it. They didn’t even bother to construct a monument to the country’s Bravehearts for seven decades. They had no compunction in openly slamming our newly constructed National War Memorial. The Statue of Unity, erected in honour of Sardar Vallabhbhai Pate, tops out at more than a mile in height. It’s something of which every Indian may be proud. However, the major party leaders of a select few have never paid a visit to the Statue…In his words, “we are making it our mission to rise above negative politics and move forward along the path of positive politics.”

Many state governors and ministers from the states whose train stations are being renovated as part of the Amrit Bharat Station programme were on hand for the event in which the foundation stones were laid.
