In Jammu on Saturday, the 128th birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh, the last Dogra king of the state that was once known as J&K, was celebrated with rallies and other events by a variety of political and social groups.

A large rally was held to commemorate the event, and it was led by members of the Yuva Rajput Sabha, who were instrumental in the prior year’s successful campaign to have the Maharaja’s birthday recognised as a public holiday in Jammu. This campaign was backed by practically all of the city’s political parties and social organisations. The administration of the UT had decided to make September 23 a public holiday the previous year after being pressured by students.
