Ramban: The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) began construction on the extra two-lane Sherbibi viaduct on Thursday. It will run parallel to the 244-metre bridge that was recently inaugurated in the Ramban-Banihal segment of the four-lane project.

According to officials, “This extra two-lane viaduct in the Sherbibi region is part of the ongoing four-lane project between the Ramban and Banihal portions. The hundreds of vehicle operators that use this road every day will benefit from respite from traffic jams once it is finished.

On the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, “it will enhance road connectivity and increase road communication,” they said.

Engineers from the construction company that NHAI hired reported that workers and equipment had been brought to the site, and excavation work for building piers on both sides of additional two-lane Sherbibi viaducts had begun at the same time.

On this extra two-lane viaduct, they claimed that some piers had already been built.

This is the second two-lane viaduct of the four-lane road project, according to a manager of the construction firm CPPPL. He said that the job had begun quickly.

Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, had earlier on Monday declared the completion of the 224-metre, two-lane Sherbibi viaduct, which had cost an estimated 12 crore to build.

The minister had said, “This infrastructure is situated along the Ramban to Banihal section of NH-44 in J&K,” adding that this 244-metre viaduct, a component of the larger project, will shorten the travel distance by 125 metres.

Following his declaration, the authorities rerouted traffic across this bridge, and today construction on a second, two-lane viaduct began.

This section of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway is used by hundreds of thousands of commuters, which causes traffic bottlenecks, particularly during rush hours and on rainy days. Highway extension construction, according to NHAI engineers, would alter the game.

A number of other locations are also actively working on the project. The four-lane project is crucial for ensuring efficient traffic movement.

Ramban Mussarat Islam, the deputy commissioner in charge of overseeing current construction projects in the area, has directed the relevant organisations to finish all the projects by the deadline.
