Residents of the hamlet of Barzulla, which is located in the Bandipora region of north Kashmir, are having difficulties getting about as a result of the limited availability of public transit.

In order to go to work and do their other daily responsibilities, the peasants need to travel several km on foot.

The issue of individuals who are simultaneously pursuing an education and working in the commercial or public sectors is made even more difficult by the fact that they are required to locate a place to stay for the night or traverse a distance of several miles on foot.

“Many of us are at a financial disadvantage, and we are unable to rent apartments in the town of Bandipora. As a result, we are compelled to go back to our homes each and every day,” said Shahid Lone, a resident of the area. People who are engaged in academic pursuits are compelled to engage in activities that need them to walk larger distances on a daily basis.

The hamlet, which contains somewhere in the neighbourhood of 200 different families, can be found around 8 km away from the administrative centre of the region.

“Because of the village’s isolated location, there are no public transit options available. Another resident of the hamlet said that the enhancement of the quality of life in the community would be possible if the authorities were to initiate the transport service to the area.

Villagers have reported that the only option available to them is to hire expensive private transport, which puts a significant strain on their finances.

“This can’t be something that happens every single day. There are some circumstances in which individuals are required to go back to their homes. Therefore, the appropriate authorities need to investigate the situation,” a different resident of the area said.

In addition to this, they requested that the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Bandipora, Owais Ahmad, investigate the situation and provide assistance to them by establishing a transport service to the community.
