Ramban: On Thursday, a landslip struck the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, causing traffic gridlock between the Nashri and Banihal sectors.

According to officials, on Thursday morning, a landslip struck and obstructed the road in the Shalgari region of Banihal, causing vehicle traffic to be stopped for two and a half hours on both sides of the highway.

They said that the responsible agency had taken out the slide and enabled vehicles to go forward on both sides of the roadway to their respective destinations.

According to traffic authorities, “smooth traffic flow was disrupted due to a landslip in the Shalgari area, the movement of nomads with livestock, and the breakdown of a few heavy vehicles between Nashri and Banihal on the highway during the day.”

Manmohan Singh, an oil tanker driver headed for Jammu, stated, “Traffic congestion had been there due to single-lane roads at Shalgari and at various other places since Thursday morning.”

After a slide at Shalgari and an accident at Nachlana, traffic is flowing slowly, according to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ramban Mussrat Islam. To prevent choking in this area, people are urged to keep their lanes straight.

Along with the landslides at Shalgar, there was also a bus and truck accident at Nachlana, between Ramban and Banihal, which caused traffic problems.

The DC said, “The slide was removed, and vehicles are moving slowly.”

As stated by SSP Traffic Rohit Baskotra, “Landslip at Shalgari; road accident in Nachlana; and movement of nomads caused huge congestion.”
