Ramban, Mar. 26: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH 44) allowed light motor vehicles (LMVs) and heavy trucks to travel in both directions on Tuesday.

According to Ramban traffic control personnel, the highway remained open, and hundreds of LMVs and heavy trucks drove through the Nashri-Banihal sector without any issues throughout the day on their route to their destinations.

With reference to the latest news from NH, they said, “Heavy load carriers are heading towards Kashmir and Jammu in a regulated manner.”
Officials stated that the slow traffic flow was caused by a few heavy trucks breaking down, the one-way road, and the poor quality of the road surface at numerous locations between Nashri and Banihal, including Dalwass, Mehar-Cafeteria, Ramban, Panthya-Nagarkot, Shalgari, and Nachlana.

The J&K Traffic Police Department issued a fresh warning for Wednesday, stating that LMVs could operate on either side of the highway, depending on road cleaning conditions and weather conditions.

“We will allow heavy vehicles to ply on the highway after evaluating the road and traffic situation on Wednesday,” the traffic officials said.

However, they advised drivers of passenger cars, commuters, and passengers not to travel on the highway at night due to worries of stone-firing between Ramban and Banihal.

“It is best to travel on the highway only during daylight hours,” they said.
