On September 10, in Pulwama, the Deputy Commissioner of Pulwama, Dr Basharat Qayoom, presided over as the Chief Guest on the launching ceremony of the first Hockey tournament of players U-17 that was held by the Youth Services and Sports Department.

Teams from each of the Kashmir division’s districts are competing in this event, and the tournament follows a knock-out format for its matches.

In his remarks to the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama gave a hearty welcome to all of the participants and expressed his satisfaction in seeing such involvement from the youngsters.

He strongly encouraged them to utilise the facilities and resources that had been provided by the District Administration in a responsible manner.

While addressing the players, the Deputy Commissioner urged them to not only compete and represent the country at the international level, but also their respective districts, where they had previously played.

He thanked the Youth Service and Sports Department for arranging these competitions and expressing his gratitude for their efforts. An anti-drug oath ceremony was also performed at the beginning of the tournament to put forth all effort possible to combat the drug problem, and every player and official was invited to return home as an Ambassador of the Anti-Drug campaign. The tournament began with an anti-drug oath ceremony.
