New Delhi, Oct. 18 (IANS) The Union cabinet agreed on Wednesday to give central government workers an extra installment of Dearness Allowance (DA) and pensioners Dearness Relief (DR) from July 1, 2023 onwards. This is an increase of 4% over the current rate of 42% of basic pay and pension to make up for price increases.

This rise is in line with the standard method, which is based on what the 7th Central Pay Commission said should happen. The total amount of money that both DA and DR would cost the government every year would be Rs 12,857 crore.
