Handwara, July 27: A team of medics was quickly assembled to keep tabs on the situation after a case of chickenpox was discovered in a Puthwari Nawgam in the Kupwara district of North Kashmir.

Dr. Mohammad Hafeez, the Block Medical Officer for Langate, stated at first it was thought that the chickenpox cases had been found in the Puthwari Nawgam area.

But after a thorough examination, Hafeez reported finding a single incidence of chickenpox in a male infant aged 9 months.

Hafeez said that he had taken every necessary safety action, including isolating the infant in question.

He also said that the issue was under control and that medical teams had been formed to inspect schools and their kids.

He urged people not to trust reports and to take precautions, saying, “Close vigilance is being kept on the situation and all measures are being taken to avoid spread of the disease.”

Specifically, the varicella-zoster virus causes the illness known as chickenpox. Small, fluid-filled blisters appear on the skin and generate an irritating rash.

People who have never had chickenpox or who have not been immunised against it are likely to spread it to others.
