Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated his 73rd birthday on Sunday by riding a Delhi Metro train, according to a press release from New Delhi.
“Happy Birthday Modi ji” was sung and cheered for by passengers as they rode on the bus, and they were also spotted taking photographs with him.
The Delhi Airport Metro Express line was earlier extended from Dwarka Sector 21 to the recently constructed “Yashobhoomi” Dwarka Sector 25 metro station by Prime Minister Modi.
The Airport Express Line took the Prime Minister from Dhaula Kuan to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25.
The new Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 station, which is an underground facility, will now have a direct connection to significant city landmarks including Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport and the New Delhi Railway station, according to Delhi Metro authorities.
On Sunday at 3 p.m., “Passenger operations on this new extension will begin. The entire distance of the Airport Express Line from New Delhi to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 would increase to 24.9 kilometres with the inclusion of this segment, the official said.
Seven Metro stations presently serve the Airport Express Line: New Delhi (Yellow Line interchange), Shivaji Stadium, DhaulaKuan, Delhi Aerocity, Airport (T-3), Dwarka Sector 21 (Blue Line interchange) and Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25.
The DMRC official said that a total of eight trains, each with six carriages, would run along the Airport Express Line corridor from Dwarka Sector 21 to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25.
There will be trains running every ten minutes on this route. The source said that the overall travel time from New Delhi to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 would be roughly 21 minutes. “Delhi Metro will also increase the operational speed of metro trains on Airport Express Line from a remarkable speed of 90 kmph to a remarkable speed of 120 kmph,” the official said.
