Srinagar, September 5: Today at the Indoor Stadium Srinagar, Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta attended the 52nd Senior National (Men) Handball Championship.

In cooperation with the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council (JKSC), the J&K Handball Association staged the Championship under the auspices of Handball Association India.

From September 1 to September 5, around 32 teams from UTs and States in India took part in the competition. By overcoming Railways, Haryana won the 52nd national senior men’s handball tournament. Gujarat and Jammu & Kashmir were named the equal second-place teams in the competition.

Dr. Mehta, the event’s chief guest, said that the University of Texas has changed its sports culture and infrastructure over the last several years.

He said that it is encouraging to observe that sports are now actively participated in by half of the people in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that in addition to influencing a person’s work, sports are crucial for personality development. He also exhorted the athletes and sports enthusiasts to inspire individuals from all backgrounds to engage in sports, which is essential to fostering positivism in life.

Dr. Mehta said that the government has made athletics one of its key goals and that the UT is now a major hub for athletic talent.

He said that the government has taken a variety of actions to develop the potential of aspiring athletes in J&K, including ensuring that every Panchayat has at least one playfield, creating Youth Clubs, and holding several athletic events all year long.

According to CS, who said that Jammu and Kashmir is seeing a new revolution in the sports industry, a large number of athletes from the UT are now representing the nation in a variety of sports. He said that the UT had the same resources as other areas of the nation and the capacity to create athletes of the highest calibre.

Additionally, he mingled with the competing teams and expressed his gratitude for their sportsmanlike behaviour. In order to promote and develop potential, J&K, which is currently equipped with the greatest sports infrastructure, invited the visiting teams to come.
