The J&K government opens an investigation into charges of corruption involving deputy mayor SMC

The Department of Housing and Urban Development has designated Anil Koul, JKAS, Secretary, as the Inquiry Officer.

On July 31, the Jammu and Kashmir government announced that Parvez Qadri, the deputy mayor of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), will be the subject of an investigation into charges of corruption. Anil Koul has been named as the investigation’s officer.

The government said in an order from the housing and urban development department that the investigation was started on the basis of a complaint from the anti-corruption bureau in Srinagar.

According to the order, “Mr. Anil Koul, JKAS, Secretary in the Housing and Urban Development Department, is hereby appointed as the Inquiry Officer to conduct a detailed inquiry into the allegations of corruption against Mr. Parvez Qadri, Deputy Mayor, Srinagar Municipal Corporation on the basis of inputs/report received from Anti Corruption Bureau, J&K Srinagar,” which was issued under section 34 of the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act 2000.

The process of investigation should be conducted in accordance with the principles of natural justice, it said.
