Prime Minister Narendra Modi is now on a four-day tour to South Africa and Greece, which began today (August 22) in New Delhi. At the request of President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be attending the 15th BRICS Summit, which will be held in Johannesburg from August 22-24.

According to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BRICS has been actively involved in creating a strong cooperation agenda across a variety of industries, and it also acts as a venue for deliberating upon matters of relevance for the whole of the Global South.

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, expressed his excitement at the possibility of arranging bilateral talks with “some of the leaders present in Johannesburg.”

“BRICS has been actively promoting a robust agenda of collaboration across a variety of areas. According to a statement made by the Prime Minister, “We value the fact that BRICS has become a platform for discussing and deliberating on issues of concern for the entirety of the Global South, including development imperatives and reform of the multilateral system.”

The economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa make up what is known as the BRICS grouping of nations.

The BRICS summit will take place from the 22nd to the 24th of August. This will be Prime Minister Modi’s third visit to South Africa, and it will also celebrate the 30th anniversary of India and South Africa’s establishment of a diplomatic relationship.

South Africa now holds the chairmanship of the BRICS summit for this year. “BRICS and Africa: Partnership for Mutually Accelerated Growth, Sustainable Development, and Inclusive Multilateralism” is the topic of this year’s summit.

After three years in a row of meetings being held virtually because to the Covid-19 outbreak, the BRICS Summit will finally be held in person for the first time.

The Prime Minister went on to say the following: “During my stay in Johannesburg, I will also participate in BRICS–Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus Dialogue event that will be held as part of the BRICS Summit activities.” I am looking forward to engaging in conversation with representatives from a variety of nations that have been invited to take part in this event.

In a televised appearance, Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, will participate in the 15th BRICS Summit. Sergey Lavrov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, will head the Russian delegation. Following the BRICS Summit, South Africa will host this event, which will include participation from dozens of nations, the most of which will be located on the African continent.

At the request of his Greek counterpart, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Prime Minister of South Africa will spend Friday travelling to Greece’s capital city of Athens. “This will be my very first time visiting this historic region. According to the announcement, the Prime Minister of India made the following statement: “I have the honour of being the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Greece after 40 years.”

“There have been interactions between our two cultures that go back more than two millennia. Our relationships to one another in contemporary times have become stronger as a result of our common principles of democracy, the rule of law, and pluralism. The Prime Minister of India said that the civilizational links between India and Greece were strengthened by the two nations’ cooperation in a variety of spheres, including defence, commerce and investment, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people interactions.

“I look forward to my visit to Greece opening a new chapter in our multifaceted relationship,” he stated at one point. “I am very excited about it.”
