On the eve of Eid-e-Milad un Nabi (SAW), a team from the food safety department in Srinagar conducted special drives in a number of the city’s marketplaces under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad.

The inspection drives were carried out to evaluate the food business establishments’ hygienic procedures and product quality.

Mobile Food Testing Van was set up to inspect the quality of ready-to-eat foods during market inspection drives overseen by Assistant Commissioner Food Safety (Designated Officer under FSSA Srinagar), Yameen ul Nabi, in and around the Hazratbal region, Bemina, and Qamarwari. In the mobile food testing van, 40 ready-to-eat food items were analysed immediately.

Food Canteens at JVC and Children’s Hospital Bemina were also examined by the Food Safety Department of Srinagar. Six lawful samples were also submitted for analysis, and the checking teams also removed around 14 surveillance samples. In this respect, the Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar has requested that the Food Safety Department and other market checking teams continue their campaign in the City Markets to make sure that all basic goods are sold at prices set by the Government in accordance with the Food Safety Standards and Quality.
