In the Budgam area of central Kashmir, two criminals robbed a lady of her money under the guise of magic.
For her daughter’s wedding, the foolish mother had saved Rs 70,000. When there were no men around, the thugs took advantage of the mother and daughter.
This happened in the Budgam neighbourhood of Zurgund on the ninth of Muharram.
According to the victim’s daughter, two people broke into their home and claimed to double the money belonging to Ghulam Muhammad Dar.
The two individuals said they sell amulets to help people through difficult times. They began promising us that everything would be OK, and one of them even asked my mum where she had stashed the money for her daughter’s wedding.
There were only the two of us there. My mum put her faith in them, expecting a hundred percent return on her investment. She gave them 70,000 Indian rupees. I walked into the kitchen to make tea for them, and after that I have no idea what occurred. Upon my return, they gave me a bulky package sealed with a Rs 10 note wrapped in thread.
After 9 days, one of them insisted we open the package.
I weighed the envelope and assumed it contained cash, but when we opened it today, we found just scraps of paper.
She said that a police report had been filed.
Saleema, who had money stolen from her, said the funds were earmarked for her daughter’s wedding.
According to a government official, surveillance video has been collected and the search for the two criminals is underway. (KNT)
