Kupwara, Aug. 26: Three Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist affiliates were detained by the police and army in two separate operations in the Kupwara region of north Kashmir on Saturday, according to the police.

In response to a reliable tip, the police and army conducted an operation to apprehend two terrorist affiliates who had acquired a shipment from an unnamed person in Kupwara, according to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara Yougal Man.

According to information obtained by Lashkar-e-Toiba leader Ghulam Rasool alias Rafia Rasool, who was formerly a resident of ChandigamLolab and is now located in PoK, the people were discovered to be travelling towards the hamlet of Shatmuqam.

Zubair Ahmad Shah Peerzada and PeerzadaMubashirYousf, both citizens of Shatmuqam, Lolab, Kupwara, were named among the arrested people. Three cell phones and five hand grenades were found in their possession. According to preliminary investigations, the pair may have been tasked with choosing neighbourhood targets who are active in promoting local government initiatives. They had also sent their controllers photos of people who would be possible targets, the SSP said.

He said that in a different instance, the police and army conducted a combined naka in Shalpora Drugmulla after receiving reliable information about the movements of a terrorist associate. As a consequence, one hand grenade (JK05E 0335) was recovered from a vehicle.
