Bandipora, August 5: Sepoy Waseem Ahmad Dar, a football player from the Bandipora region of north Kashmir, was one of three army troops killed on Wednesday in an encounter in southern Kulgam.

Dar, who enlisted in the army in 2014, died Friday night in a confrontation with militants in the Halan forest region of Kulgam.

A search operation by the 34 Rashtriya Rifles of the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police led to the confrontation.

His death rocked the Bandipora neighbourhood where he lived. Women cried as they remembered the young soldier who had left behind an expectant wife. Waseem’s trip back to his hometown for Eid after he and his wife, who he wed in November 2021, made a lasting impression on his loved ones.

His younger brother, Zubair Sarwar Dar, revealed to Greater Kashmir that his wife is six months along in her pregnancy. They tied the knot in the autumn of 2021. He abandons his parents, wife, brother, and two sisters who are also married. Waseem, he added, had not seen his family since Eid.

In addition to being a valiant and devoted soldier, he was also a gifted player with a deep love for the sport. He was a member of the Dachigam Iqra Football Club. His friends and teammates thought of him affectionately since he was a loyal, trustworthy guy. They stated he constantly cheered for the best Jammu and Kashmiri teams and players. His impact on the game was huge, as stated by the District Football Association.
