Srinagar, 7 Oct. In the Doda area of Jammu and Kashmir, three workers were murdered and five others were injured when the truck they were riding in went off the road and plummeted into a narrow valley, according to authorities.


According to an official, the incident happened yesterday night at 10:40 pm when a light motor vehicle with the licence plate JK06A-8682 travelling from Khellani to Hamble crashed into a chasm that was 200–300 feet deep near Sarhoa Hambal in the Marmat tehsil of Doda.

He said that the accident left all eight of the car’s passengers injured. Three of them were pronounced dead upon arrival at GMC Doda, where they were transferred.

The dead were identified as Karan Jeet Singh, son of Shib Charan; Minay Kumar, son of Daya Ram of Sarhoa Humble; and Lal Chand, son of Jamit Ram.

Sanjay Kumar, son of Shrwa’s Jamit Ram; Manjeet Singh; Khushal Kumar, son of Kung Lal; Mintu Kumar, son of Balak Ram; and Sunahir Lal, son of Chuni Lal, were among the wounded.

One wounded patient is in critical condition, while the other four injured patients are stable since they are responding to therapy, according to doctors at GMC Hospital Doda.

According to the police, following a postmortem, the remains would be given to the individual families for last rites.

In the meantime, Deputy Commissioner Mahajan released Rs. 50,000 in emergency assistance from the District Red Cross Fund in favour of the deceased’s relatives.

In accordance with the relevant legal provisions, police have opened a case at Police Station Doda for further investigation. (Contributed by Parvaiz Mir)
