Oct. 29 (New Delhi): According to a source, the seven best teams from the current Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 in India will join the hosts, Pakistan, in the eight-team ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.

According to an ICC official quoted by ESPNcricinfo, eight men’s global competitions are slated to take place in 2024–2031, including the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, which received clearance from the ICC Board in 2021.

In November 2021, the ICC announced a number of global tournaments for both men and women in the 2023–24 cycle, including the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025 and 2029.

The ICC released a statement saying “there would be an eight-team event, and the tournament structure will follow previous editions with two groups of four, semi-finals, and finals.”

Because they didn’t make the cut for the 2023 ODI World Cup, other Full Member countries like the West Indies, Zimbabwe, and Ireland will not even be eligible to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Many cricket boards, however, revealed to ESPNcricinfo that they were not informed of the selection procedure and hence did not qualify for the ODI World Cup.

Discussions on Bangladesh’s chances of qualifying for the ICC Champions Trophy arose when their captain, Shakib Al Hasan, made statements in a news conference that alluded to the tournament.

In both the 2013 and 2017 Champions Trophy tournaments, the top eight teams in the ODI rankings were invited to participate. It has been established that the ICC Board endorsed the suggestion of the ICC’s chief executive committee to have the top seven teams at this World Cup for the 2025 Champions Trophy.
