Srinagar: On the topic of “Truth and Non-Violence,” two essential tenets of Gandhian philosophy and the pillars of his spiritual journey that paved the way for India’s route to liberation, Amar Singh College sponsored a Divisional-level declamation competition. The Declamation Competition was held as a part of the Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations honouring Mahatma Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi’s 154th birth anniversary.

The nine candidates were the victors from their respective districts competing in the divisional final round of the three-tier tournament, which was conducted in Valley colleges.

Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Principal of the host institution and Nodal Principal of Kashmir Division Colleges, gave the opening remarks before the declamation event began. He emphasised the need of setting up such declamation competitions to instill a sense of Ahimsa and patriotism in young people.

Prof. (Dr) Yasmeen Ashai, Director of Colleges UT of Kashmir, gave the presidential talk. We cannot imagine a peaceful society without absorbing the ideas of Gandhian philosophy, according to Prof. Ashai, who said that it is crucial to transmit the Gandhian Message to the next generation. The event’s guest of honour and president of the Gandhi Global Family, Padmashree S. P. Verma, also made a speech. He highlighted the outstanding job being done by the Gandhi Global Family to illuminate Gandhian thinking around the world. He praised the Higher Education Department’s efforts in setting up the Declamation competition for college students.

Also there and speaking on Gandhian values was GGF National Delegate Kumar Kalanad.
