Ramban: The tram service between the Banihal and Khari railway stations in the district of Ramban is currently operating after the completion of track construction on this segment.

This section is 111 kilometres long and is part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) initiative.

In August of this year, the 8.6-kilometre-long train tunnel T-74 effectively completed its first demonstration drive.

Engineers and technicians are currently conducting a trial trolley run between the Banihal-Khari and Khari-Sumber railway stations, according to officials.

They stated, “A tram run was conducted from Banihal Railway Station to Khari Railway Station in the presence of Northern Railway senior officers and engineers and IRCON construction company officials.”

They added, “After this, we will concentrate on the stations of Sumber and Sangaldan.”

Railway officials stated, “Buildings and other infrastructure for Khari, Sumber, and Sangaldan railway stations are nearly complete.” Between the Sumber and Sangaldan stations, platform construction and track installation are currently underway.

They stated, “We are working around the clock to complete pending work on three crucial stations, namely Khari, Sumber, and Sangaldan, on the Katra-Banihal stretch in the Ramban district. We anticipate the Katra-Banihal rail line to be operational soon.”

Earlier in July 2023, the General Manager of Northern Railways, Shobhan Chaudhuri, reported that 95 percent of the ongoing work on the 111-kilometre Katra-Banihal section had been completed.
