Srinagar, October 28: Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) implementation in Bazipora Ajas and other regions has not lived up to expectations, according to Jammu Kashmir Apni Party Vice President Usman Majid. This has raised serious worries about the JJM’s efficiency and repercussions for the local population.

He stated in a statement, “Unfortunately, there have been significant setbacks in the infrastructure development under this scheme.”

“It has been improperly managed to establish pipelines, which are essential to guaranteeing water availability. A significant percentage—roughly 80%—of the pipes are still above ground, not meeting the minimal need of being buried. He said, “This omission puts the convenience of the community in jeopardy, particularly during the hard winter months.

Majid expressed disappointment at the acknowledgement that a small number of entrenched interests, working with certain components, contributed to the scheme’s collapse, which resulted in an unacceptable loss for the community and the public coffers. “The primary goals of the Jal Jeevan Mission, which are to supply clean water to every household, have been jeopardised by this negligence,” he said.

Furthermore, using old and decaying pipes rather than building new ones raises questions about the durability and quality of the infrastructure that has been put in place. According to him, there is a danger to the residents’ safety as well as the integrity of the mission because of this departure from the established rules.

Majid said that the department’s supervision and monitoring systems, in addition to the designated contractors, have accountability for carrying out this crucial duty.

“The department and the relevant administration must closely monitor and assess how these programmes are carried out. According to him, payments made to contractors must closely follow the quality criteria and established norms that were specified throughout the procurement process.

He put up the request that the Jal Shakti Bandipora Executive Engineering Department supervise and closely monitor the current Jal Jeevan Mission activity. “It is crucial that the work conforms to the established standards and guarantees that each household has access to clean water,” Majid said.
