Weatherman predicts continued hot and dry conditions until August 20

The forecaster has said that there is no expectation of a significant rainy spell in Jammu and Kashmir between the dates of July 20 and August 20.

No rainy period is expected to occur before August 20, 2023, according to Mukhtar Ahmad, Deputy Director of the Meteorological Department (MeT).

He went on to say that there is no chance of rain in the forecast for the next 9 days, so the weather should be dry and pleasant during that time.

The Deputy Director of MeT predicted that highs will be in the low to mid-30s Celsius throughout that time, with the possibility of isolated thunderstorms.

Since the beginning of the month of August, J-K has had hot, dry weather.

However, J&K has had 336.6 mm of precipitation during the current season (June 01, 2023 – August 09, 2023) compared to the average rainfall of 337.3 mm.

The summer capital of J&K, Srinagar, had an 80 percent increase in rainfall than normal, with 268.4 millimetres falling instead of the typical of 148.9 millimetres.

Kishtwar is the only station to have gotten much less precipitation than average this season; instead of the typical 265.5 millimetres, the area only received 90.7 millimetres.

In addition, Shopian in Kashmir and Reasi & Poonch in the Jammu division have also had below-average precipitation this season, at 39% and 22% below-average, respectively.
