August 9th, Srinagar: On Wednesday, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai told Rajya Sabha that 761 terror acts in Jammu and Kashmir between 2018 and 2022 resulted in the deaths of 174 civilians, 308 security personnel, and 1002 terrorists.

According to the news outlet Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Rai said in a written reply to a query that from 2018 and 2022, there were a total of 761 terror acts in the former state, resulting in the deaths of 174 people.

“Furthermore, 35 civilians were killed in the Union Territory in 626 encounters occurred in the same period,” he added, adding that the number of security personnel killed during this time remained at 308. Additionally, 1002 terrorists were exterminated by security forces during this time.

He also mentioned that the Indian government has a central scheme to help those who have lost loved ones in terrorist attacks, communal or LWE violence, or cross-border firing or explosions caused by mines or IEDs on Indian territory. This scheme provides victims and their families with immediate, monetary support.

Since 2008, the plan has been in effect. The increase in pay from Rs 3 Lakh to Rs 5 Lakh is effective as of 24 August 2016. The states foot the bill and then seek reimbursement,” he said.(KNO)
